The Law
Offices of Ross Gelfand was started by Ross Gelfand in 1984. The firm
specializes in debt collection for the commercial, retail, and medical
markets. Mr. Gelfand has both an MBA and JD degrees from Emory
University in Atlanta, GA and most interestingly, never worked for any
other law firm in his career other than his own. Clients include many high
technology and telecommunications corporations, financial institutions,
and private individuals.
Mr. Gelfand has been
licensed to practice law by the Georgia Bar since 1983. Ross is also
licensed to practice before all Courts and Administrative Bodies in the
State of Georgia, the United States Bankruptcy Court, and the United
States District Court. Ross is a member of the Georgia State Bar
Association, the American Bar Association, the Commercial Law League of
America, the Columbia Law List and NARCA.
According to Ross, the
key to success for his firm, which grew from a staff of 2 in 1984 to a
staff of 90 today in his 13000 square foot corporate headquarters which he
owns in Atlanta Georgia, was his ability to market direct to credit
grantors. "Selling vacuum cleaners door to door in college gave me
the drive and courage to cold call" says Ross. This experience
carried over to his law practice.
That experience
combined with his insight in the marketplace allowed the Law Offices of
Ross Gelfand to become the 34th largest nationwide collection law firm in
the US ranked by Faulkner & Gray. Mr. Gelfand states that the key to
being in the collection industry and continuing to grow is the ability to
market, know and service your clients.
An interesting story
about one of Gelfand's first cases dates back to 1985 concerning a claim
from a urologist. Ross received a debtor letter which stated "Mr.
Gelfand, if you had just called a plumber and were taking a shower and the
showerhead was squirting in 20 different directions -- would you pay the
plumber." Fortunately, the debtor's condition was not quite that bad
and based upon some skillful negotiation, Ross was able to craft a
settlement which was acceptable to all parties.
With various types of
technology at his disposal and an electronic legal network, the Law
Offices of Ross Gelfand continues to attract a national audience. With
